Not a tech savvy person but I managed to install Linux Mint and trash out Windows. So Trust me Bro you can Too.
Ok so I was inspired by this blog and they explained how and why they use Linux and everyone should too. I was intrigued because on my laptop the windows was Lagging . My laptop is OLD it is a 2013 Hp Pavilion that had windows 8 until 2022, it is that old. I could feel my laptop pushing through the mud of bugs and trash everytime I tried to load something. It wasn't just carrying the weight of it's reputation but also my expectations.
I can say it did a great job so far.
Still I knew I would have to either buy a new laptop or find another option soon.
It Started with an Idea. rolls eyes so hard .
I knew a free open source anything would be better than all the ridiculousness of the windows-trash. I watched some videos about the installation process and decided that when My laptop really gives in, I will switch to Linux.
But as God's will, things don't go according to our human plans. My heart lept in my throat when I couldn't open windows one fine morning(yesterday) and had to spent the entire morning tapping f10 and discovering legacy support which then helped restore the windows.
But boy was that a wake up call . I understood the sign from the Universe and acted right on it.
TO DO LIST: For the windows data
1. Back up your data. In my case I used notion and codepen to backup my sitepages cuz I needed to that. (Future github maybe)
2. Let go of what isn't important. Old pics, videos stuff. I transfered all the 150-ish pdfs for novels/books that I downloaded from pdfdrive back-in-the-day into my phone I use Librera to read and listen audiobooks.(use-full-less info dump)
TO DO LIST: For installing LINUX MINT
1. Watch some videos and get a basic idea. Link1
link2
2. Must have a 4Gb or above usb.
3. Select one video you understand best and follow properly. I took notes about the actions I took with timestamps. TRUST ME THIS HELPS if you are not tech savvy and mess up you atleast know where you messsed up.
Can you work on Linux?
This was my main concern too. Will I be able to do the same things in Linux as I can in windows. So I tested the Linux Mint first, which you can too before installing. And after testing it I choose to install it. Apart from a few differences which really aren't that big I managed it just fine and I am currently using it to write this blog too.
If I can you can too.
USES
I can use it to surf the web, it has pre installed Firefox, there are many other browser options too eg. Chromium, Brave etc. I am currently using what I have and only after using it for a while I will decide to add another.
My current operations include NOTION, Youtube, Coding, Editing neocities and simple stuff really and it is working FINE
